We wanted to put a post together of some FAQs for anyone else who has questions. If you want to know anything that's not in here, please feel free to ask! We'd love to share with you as much information as possible. Here it goes!
Q: Where will you be moving?
A: Monterrey, Mexico--about 3 hours over the border from McAllen, Texas. Here's a map for you.
Q: How long will you be there?
A: 3 years is our initial commitment. After that, we'll see!
Q: Do you speak Spanish?
A: Fortunately, we both majored in Spanish at Wright State University and have had the chance to study abroad as well.
Q: Where will you live exactly?
A: We will live in an apartment on Back2Back's campus.
Q: Is Back2Back an orphanage?
A: Back2Back itself is not an orphanage--and they don't start any orphanages of their own either. What they do is partner with existing orphanages that are led by Mexican nationals so that they can team together and literally work "back to back" towards the same goal.
Q: Why are there so many orphans?
A: With there being so much poverty, many parents can't even afford to feed their children. Education is extremely limited, which inhibits opportunities for a sustainable income. Without education, it's nearly impossible to break out of the cycle of generational poverty.
Q: Is it dangerous there?
A: It has its risks, as moving anywhere new does. The main thing is to have common sense, learn where to not go, and make smart decisions. But we also know that God hasn't called us to a safe, comfortable environment. He calls us to a reckless faith where we allow him to show up in all his glory.
Q: How does it work financially?
A: We are in the process of raising support right now. Basically, what we need are people who have heard and understand the vision and want to be part of what God is doing in Monterrey, Mexico. The support money that comes in allows us to live and be in Monterrey, working with the children on a daily basis.
Q: Can we come visit you guys?
A: Absolutely! Many groups come throughout the year to partner with Back2Back, helping meet the needs of the children in both children's homes and impoverished communities. Even if you don't have a team of people who are able to commit, you can join up with another group. If we really like you, you can just crash at our house. :)
If you have ANY other questions at all, e-mail or message them to us, and we can even add them to this list!
